RESUMO

Wavelength conversion based on hybrid inorganic-organic sensitized triplet-triplet annihilation upconversion (TTA-UC) is promising for applications such as photovoltaics, light-emitting-diodes, photocatalysis, additive manufacturing, and bioimaging. The efficiency of TTA-UC depends on the population of triplet excitons involved in triplet energy transfer (TET), the driving force in TET, and the coupling strength between the donor and acceptor. Consequently, achieving highly efficient TTA-UC necessitates the precise control of the electronic states of inorganic donors. However, conventional covalently bonded nanocrystals (NCs) face significant challenges in this regard. Herein, a novel strategy to exert control over electronic states is proposed, thereby enhancing TET and TTA-UC by incorporating ionic-bonded CsPbBr3 and lanthanide Ce3+ ions into composite NCs. These composite-NCs exhibit high photoluminescence quantum yield, extended single-exciton lifetime, quantum confinement, and uplifted energy levels. This engineering strategy of electronic states engendered a comprehensive impact, augmenting the population of triplet excitons participating in the TET process, enhancing coupling strength and the driving force, ultimately leading to an unconventional, dopant concentration-dependent nonlinear enhancement of UC efficiency. This work not only advances fundamental understanding of hybrid TTA-UC but also opens a door for the creation of other ionic-bonded composite NCs with tunable functionalities, promising innovations for next-generation optoelectronic applications.

RESUMO

Pickering emulsions are promising systems to act as carriers of active hydrophobic components, and to improve compatibility and the water vapor barrier properties of bio-based films. This study aimed to investigated the effects of cinnamon essential oil Pickering emulsions (CEOEs) using zein/carboxymethyl tamarind gum as stabilizers on the mechanical, barrier, antibacterial and antioxidant properties of Hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose (HPMC) films, and assessed the influence of carboxymethylation degree. In addition, the effect of the packaging was studied on the shelf life of cherry tomatoes. Results showed that the droplet size reduced approximately from 93.03 to 10.59 µm with the increasing degree of substitution (DS), greatly facilitating the droplet uniform distribution in film matrix. Moreover, with the addition of CEOEs, significant increase was observed with the tensile strength from 8.46 to 25.41 MPa, and the water vapor permeability decreased from 6.18 × 10-10 to 4.24 × 10-10 g·m-1·s-1·Pa-1. The films exhibited good UV barrier properties without sacrificing the transparency after adding CEO. Furthermore, the antibacterial and antioxidant activities of the prepared films have also been greatly improved. Consequently, the CEOEs was an ideal alternative for incorporation with HPMC based films for increasing the shelf life of cherry tomatoes.

RESUMO

Nonvolatile and giant modulation of luminescence can be realized by the ferroelectric gating effect in a Ga3+/Pr3+ co-doped BaTiO3 ultra-thin film epitaxially grown on a [Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3]0.7-[PbTiO3]0.3 single-crystallized substrate. The change behavior of the emission intensity matches that of the ferroelectric polarization hysteresis loop with a giant enhancement of over 13 times with negative polarization orientation. The interaction of O2- at the O2p orbital in the valence band and Pr3+ with injected holes by the ferroelectric gating effect promotes the formation of excited state O-, Pr4+, or Pr3+q. This ferroelectric gating method can promote the development of controllable photo-, electroluminescent, and other optoelectronic devices for display, sensing, communication, and so on.

RESUMO

ABSTRACT: The aim of this study was to assess in-stent restenosis (ISR) of coronary artery for patients with CoCr stent using subtraction coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) with one-breath-hold scan on 320-row area detector CT, invasive coronary angiography (ICA) as clinical standard.Patients who were referred for CCTA from January 2020 to May 2021 were retrospectively analyzed. Pre-contrast and CCTA was performed with dedicated one-breath-hold subtraction scan protocol and post processing to get subtracted-CCTA image without stent. Subjective image qualities and diagnosable rate were analyzed for CCTA and subtracted-CCTA respectively. The ISR degree of each stent was evaluated both on CCTA and subtracted-CCTA images. The receiver-operating characteristic curve with sensitivity, specificity, accuracy of CCTA, and subtracted-CCTA in the diagnosis of ISR were calculated with ICA as reference.Forty patients with 85 CoCr coronary stents of 3 to 3.5 mm diameter with ICA confirmation within 1 month were finally included. Subtracted-CCTA showed more diagnosable segments of stent (91.76% [78/85]) than those of CCTA (50.59% [43/85]) (P < .001). The subjective image quality score of CCTA was 2.23 ±â€Š1.32 while 3.41 ±â€Š0.90 on subtracted-CCTA (P < .001). Both subtracted-CCTA and CCTA showed high consistency with ICA (Kappa = 0.795 and 0.918 respectively). The area under the curve was 0.607 for CCTA and 0.757 for subtracted-CCTA (P < .001) for stent based diagnose, respectively. The sensitivity, specificity, accuracy of CCTA, and subtracted-CCTA were 90.0%, 97.0%, 95.3%, and 87.5%, 100.0%, 97.43%, respectively.Subtracted-CCTA showed improved diagnose performance for ISR, which potentially reduce further follow-up ICA procedures for patients with CoCr stents.

RESUMO

Ozone is widely applied for disinfection in drinking water treatment and the disinfection by-product bromate would be produced during the ozonation of bromide-bearing water. Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) addition could effectively control the formation of bromate. However, the bromate depression performance would be impacted by water qualities. In this study, typical source water containing bromide in eastern China was selected to investigate bromate depression effect under different organic matter, ammonia and bromide concentrations during the H2O2-O3 process. The results display that organic matter, ammonia and bromide concentration could influence the formation of bromate significantly. As tyrosine was applied to increase the dissolved organic carbon (DOC) concentration of source water by 2.0 and 3.0 mg/L, the total concentration of bromate produced decreased gradually as the H2O2/O3 (g/g) doses increased from 0 to 1.0 and bromate concentration could be controlled below 10 µg/L as H2O2/O3 (g/g) was 0.5 and 1.0. As ammonia concentration increased by 0.1 and 0.5 mg/L, lower H2O2/O3 (g/g) doses would lead to an increase in bromate generation. As more H2O2 was added in water, the bromate formation would be suppressed. The increase of bromide concentration induced higher bromate formation. When the bromide concentration increased by 50 and 200 µg/L, bromate concentration was 10.7 µg/L and 41.2 µg/L respectively at the H2O2/O3 (g/g) of 1.0, higher than the standard level. As 200 µg/L of bromide was added to the water, bromate concentration increased significantly and then decreased as H2O2/O3 (g/g) increased and more H2O2 would be needed for bromate control.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: 8-iso-Prostaglandin F2α (8-iso-PGF2α) is a potential biomarker of oxidative stress. This study clarified whether plasma 8-iso-PGF2α concentrations were affected and its underlying relevance to prognosis in aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH). METHODS: In this prospective, observational study, a total of 170 controls and 170 aSAH patients were enrolled. Plasma 8-iso-PGF2α concentrations were detected using an ELISA. Severity was assessed by World Federation of Neurological Surgeons (WFNS) scale and modified Fisher grading scale. Clinical outcomes included 6-month mortality and poor outcome referred to as Glasgow outcome scale score of 1-3. RESULTS: As compared to controls, admission plasma 8-iso-PGF2α concentrations were significantly enhanced. Increased concentrations of plasma 8-iso-PGF2α correlated with WFNS scores and modified Fisher scores. 8-iso-PGF2α in plasma was an independent predictor for clinical outcomes. Under ROC curve, the predictive values of 8-iso-PGF2α concentrations resembled those of WFNS scores and modified Fisher scores for clinical outcomes. CONCLUSIONS: An elevation in plasma 8-iso-PGF2α concentrations is associated with the severity and poor outcome after aSAH, substantializing 8-iso-PGF2α as a potential prognostic biomarker of aSAH.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: CXC chemokine ligand-12 (CXCL12) is involved in the innate immune system. Elevation of its level in the peripheral blood is associated with severity and outcome of ischemic stroke. This study aimed to investigate its relation to severity and prognosis following aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH). METHODS: Serum CXCL12 levels were determined in a total of 182 controls and 182 aSAH patients. Hemorrhagic severity was assessed using the World Federation of Neurological Surgeons (WFNS) scale and modified Fisher grading scale. Unfavorable outcome was defined as Glasgow outcome scale score of 1-3. Prognostic predictors of 6-month mortality and unfavorable outcome were identified using multivariate analysis. RESULTS: The serum CXCL12 levels were significantly higher in patients as compared to controls (14.5±6.7ng/mL vs. 1.7±0.6ng/mL, P<0.001) and were independently associated with WFNS scores (t=5.927, P<0.001) and modified Fisher scores (t=5.506, P<0.001). Serum CXCL12 levels predicted 6-month mortality and 6-month unfavorable outcome with the area under curves of 0.815 [95% confidence (CI), 0.751-0.868] and 0.809 (95% CI, 0.745-0.864) respectively and were related independently to 6-month mortality (odds ratio, 4.428; 95% CI, 1.977-12.031; P=0.004) and 6-month unfavorable outcome (odds ratio, 3.821; 95% CI, 1.097-9.251; P=0.001). Moreover, the predictive values of CXCL12 levels were in the range of WFNS scores and modified Fisher scores. CONCLUSIONS: Elevation of serum CXCL12 levels is associated highly with hemorrhagic severity and poor outcome after aSAH, suggesting CXCL12 might have the potential to be a prognostic predictive biomarker of aSAH.

RESUMO

Dural granuloma is extremely rare. To our knowledge, there has no case reported solitary spinal dural syphilis granuloma worldwide so far. Here we report our findings in a 49-year-old woman, who presented with 10-year progressive left lower-limb numbness and two weeks of right lower-limb numbness. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) suggested a homogeneous enhanced spindle-shaped lesion, 2.9 × 1.5 cm in size, occupying the spinal intradural extramedullary space, at the level of Thoracic (T)-2/3, which mimicked the appearance of spinal meningioma. The Treponema pallidum particle agglutination (TPPA) test titer of 1:8, and the venereal diseases research laboratory of cerebral spinal fluid (VDRL-CSF) was reactive, so confirmed neurosyphilis was considered. After formal anti-syphilis treatment, posterior laminectomy surgery was performed, and the lesion was completely separated and extirpated. Final histopathologic diagnosis of the lesion was confirmed as chronic granulomatous inflammation, combined with the neurosyphilis history, spinal dural syphilis granuloma was finally diagnosed. Postoperatively, the patient recovered without any further treatment.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Frontal sinus (FS) perforation is a common complication in frontal craniotomy. The primary goal of treatment is to seal the FS without destroying physiological function. OBJECTIVE: This article describes a new FS cavity reconstruction technique using medical aural and encephalic glue (EC glue)-soaked gelfoam. METHODS: Between 2007 and 2012, 118 patients underwent FS reconstruction using EC glue-soaked gelfoam. The FS cavity was reconstructed in all patients and no patient experienced intracranial infection, frontal sinusitis, or cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leakage. RESULTS: Restoring physiological function is the primary goal of FS reconstruction. Difficulty often arises in sealing the sinus opening, especially when the mucosa is damaged. Mucosal border dissection and electric coagulation of the mucosal laceration can help to reconstruct the mucosal cavity. Sealing the sinus with autogenous or exogenous material, such as fascia, bone flap or gelfoam carries increased risks of intracranial infection, frontal sinusitis, and CSF leakage in the short term, and increased the occurrence of a FS mucocoele in the long term. Gelfoam saturated with EC glue obtained good results. CONCLUSION: We describe the application of gelfoam saturated with EC glue to treat an open FS with or without mucosal violation during frontal craniotomy. Gelfoam saturated with EC glue is a quick, effective, low-cost and reliable means of sealing the FS while preserving its physiological function.
